Crete, Greece

I’ve never had any doubt that Greece is a beautiful collection of islands, but with some reputations they have, I had my reservations. My destination was Hersonissos, on the island of Crete (the largest of the Greek Islands) and it was to be home for 4 days.

Often enough, I was told that the true beauty of Crete was experienced via a road trip from one end to the other which needed at least two weeks worth of time. I had that sort of free time but a driving licence? No. I know! I know! 21 and I still can’t drive. I’m errr…working on it.

So back to Greece. Knowing how lazy I’d get once I saw the hotel pool, I wasn’t foreseeing much exploration. This was supposed to be a post degree celebration/wind-down (a mentally TOUGH three years might I add).

However…

Upon arrival, the exceptional beauty of the island immediately awoke my internal explorer and I wanted to see everything. With 4 days I knew it wasn’t possible but I was determined to make the most of it. Crete truly did encapsulate the traditional scenic vision you’d expect of European islands, with tiered bright white housing topped with terra cotta/ blue roofs in the midst of clear skies and a clear sea to match.

The highlight of the trip was a cruise along the Aegan Sea (I had to google that after I left…) to the north-western most tip of Crete to see Gramvousa and Balos Bay where the mix of sea blues created a whirlpool of backdrop colours that in all honesty can only be truly appreciated by the naked eye. Nonetheless, I’ve tried to capture this as much as I could in my holiday/casual beach wear photos below. Shorts are everything in the heat. Hope you enjoy viewing them as much fun as it was to take them!

P.S. Don’t ever let anyone tell you straw hats aren’t cool.
